Ailsa Tandy Matchpoint Pairs (Real Bridge)
Ailsa Tandy was a vibrant member of the bridge community who represented her state and country at bridge championships with great distinction. She came from a family of keen bridge players and frequently played with her brother Dr. Ian McCance who was himself an expert player. Her father wrote a bridge column for the Argus. Ailsa was awarded Life Membership of the club for her contributions to the running of bridge in Victoria. The event’s format was chosen to give some variety of scoring, different to the usual IMP scoring. Before Swiss pairs and IMP-scored pairs came into fashion, pairs events were always matchpoints.
