This event is named for Jessel and Nathaniel Rothfield who were past Presidents of the VBA and contributed much to the running of bridge in Victoria and Australia.  They were made Life Members of the VBA for their services to bridge. Jessel is also famous for being the oldest player at 80 years to represent Australia at the World Bridge Open Team Championships in partnership with his wife Carole. The Rothfield teams hosts the Victorian Open, Womens, and Seniors Representative teams as they play in this event as a warm up for the Australian National Championships.  It is popular with many other players too.
