Who Do the VCC Trophies Honour?

Victor Champion: 1909-1974
Over a period of about 20 years Victor Champion was the playing captain of many Victorian Open teams including 6 winning ones. For a period he was the sole selector of Victorian Teams.
An obituary by Les Longhurst states: He was the complete bridge player, a master exponent of every facet of the game. He imbued partners with confidence, opponents with awe and kibitzers with reverence. Seeing him play was like watching a flawless, well-oiled machine in action. His play was rhythmical and precise, his table manners impeccable and he appeared to be quite unperturbed by diabolical distributions. I have heard that he was an excellent teacher. I know that he was a superb player and a clever and witty writer.
Ian McCance
Ian McCance is very well known and respected in Melbourne and has been active and successful on the Australian Tournament scene for over 60 years. He currently writes weekly articles on bridge for The Age on Saturdays and monthly for the VBA Bulletin. He recently published a book titled The Setting Trick - with 100 problems for intermediate or advanced players.

Charlie Snashall: 1947 - 2007
Charlie was one of nature's gentlemen. He was always busy working, feeding his mates, playing bridge or doing the crossword – at all of which he was exceptionally able. He was great fun at the bridge table, a great partner, a fearsome opponent and a wonderfully supportive teammate. Charlie was always keen to support ‘beginners’ in bridge to develop their skills and love of the game. Hence the naming of the ‘Charlie Snashall Trophy for the Restricted Teams.
