  • 2018 Victorian Open Team Selection

The 2018 Interstate Teams Championship will be held in July in Hobart and the path to representation has already begun.  There are four paths to becoming a member of the Victorian Open Team.  The first one is now available to the Mill team through winning the Victorian State Team Championship (The Pennant), giving them the right to nominate to participate in the Open Team Selection process.  They need to do this by the commencement of the Victorian Open Butler which commences on 24th January.

The second method is to be the team with the highest VQP’s.  Each member of the team must have accumulated at least one VQP to be eligible. Nominations will open on 5th January 2018 for this path. Nominations to be the VQP team are to be sent to Laurie Kelso at [email protected] and close on 7th February 2018, one week prior to the commencement of the Victorian Open Butler final.

All players are encouraged to enter the Victorian Open Butler starting 24th January. However if you are a member of the Pennant team nominating for the open selection final or part of the highest VQP nominating team, you may contest the Open Butler final but are ineligible to join the Butler Team after the Open Butler final.

The final path to the open selection event will be via a Swiss Pairs event to be held on 7th & 8th April. The final pairs qualifying event is open to players who have not already qualified via the Pennant, VQP or Butler.

If you are interested in trying out for the Victorian’ Women’s and Senior’s teams heat one commences on Monday January 22nd at the VBA.  We look forward to a strong and competitive field seeking qualification to the finals later in 2018.

That leaves the Youth – we will be seeking nominations for the Victorian Youth Team throughout the first half of 2018 and we encourage children, grandchildren, nieces, nephews and friends of the family interested in representing the state in an event that is competitive but comes with a social great social experience for all.

If you have any questions please feel free to contact Laurie at any time.
