Brothers Jessel and Nat Rothfield were both President of the VBA. They were instrumental in setting up the Australian Bridge Federation, and Jessel was the inaugural President.
The brothers privately organised and played on the first Australian teams to participate in the Far East Championship (now the PABF Championship), winning in 1968. Jessel won again in 1970, the last time an Australian open team has won the PABF.
Jessel also played for Australia with his wife Carole, including the 1997 Bermuda Bowl at the age of 79
