Promoting BRIDGE within Victoria
Fostering interest in the game
Congratulations to the Dalley team who has just won the Australian Open Team playoff in Canberra. The team consisted of Tony Leibowitz – Paul Gosney – Paul Dalley – Tony Nunn – and two Victorians! – Robert Fruewirth – Jamie Thompson.
Their opponents were the Hans Team, consisting of Sartaj Hans, Peter Gill, James Coutts (another Victorian), Liam Milne, Shane Harrison and Andy Hung.
Rob has been absent from bridge at this level for many years. In 2003 he played with Ish Del’Monte in the Bermuda Bowl and they qualified for the quarter finals. He played in the Australian youth teams of the late 80’s and early 90’s with Ben and David Thompson, and the Australian Open team with Ben in 1994. Now he is moving to the younger Thompson.
This is Jamie’s first Australian Open Team but he has played successfully many times on the youth team, most recently in Italy.
Brad Coles sat down against Rob & Jamie and introduced Rob to his partner as “regular partner of the Thompson family” 😄
