  • Youth bridge fundraising session at the VBA on 31st May

    Come along and meet all our up and coming youth bridge players on 31st May to support the ‘future of bridge’. Full details will be coming shortly.

    As well as the Open, Senior’s and Women’s Teams events, the upcoming ANC in Perth in July will host the Interstate Youth Championships. This is a very important event, showcasing the bright young talent in Victoria and across the country. We will be selecting and sending the Victorian Team across to Perth to compete in this week-long event.

    Our team of 6 players (plus Captain) requires accommodation and help with airfares and to this end on May 31st, at 7:30pm at the VBA we will be running a Youth Bridge Fund-raising night.

    Many of our younger players would like to be selected, but some lack the resources to fund the trip themselves. While the VBA does offer support, sending 6 or 7 people across the country and putting them up for a week does cost a lot.

    I would like to invite any and all bridge players – to attend this night to help our young players financially; and also to show support for the group who will play such a large role in the future of the game we all love.

    The one-night function will consist of around 20 boards of bridge with, possibly, a commentary of the hands afterwards by some of the State’s leading players. We have encouraged the youth players to find a non-youth partner for the night to encourage interaction. An entry fee of $20 will apply and donations will be accepted on the night. We will serve a supper and run a raffle to add interest. All proceeds will go towards supporting Youth Bridge.

    I would love you to advertise and promote this event to your members, if your club is within reasonable travelling distance. It will be a light-hearted evening and give everyone the chance to meet the 2021 Victorian Youth Bridge Team. Entries should be via the VBA website, under ‘Entries’.
